Sony may be working on a PlayStation Phone after all

By Feigned, Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

PlayStation Phone

I’ve been hearing about the rumored PlayStation Phone for longer than I care to remember. No one’s really been able to get a straight answer from Sony. Their responses have been dodgy at best. However, the Economic Times has managed to coax the closest thing to a real response out of them that I’ve heard yet. Apparently Jim Ryan, the Sony Computer Entertainment co-chief operating officer was quoted as saying the following.

“The PlayStation is a proven success and so is Sony Ericsson. Convergence with the two arms working together is definitely plausible,” he said. “What has been done is finding a match between a camera and a mobile phone, and that has been done wherein the mobile phone features are not reasonably inhibited and the camera is also a reasonably competitive product. It is hugely intellectually seductive to have a console-oriented phone.”

It’s one of those things that I think we’ve all seen coming, though I can’t say that I’m really excited about it. Sony Ericsson phones haven’t really been anything to write home about, and I wouldn’t say that the PSP has exactly been a the hit Sony wanted it to be. Then you look at the only other phone/game console combo, which is the Nokia N-gage, and it failed miserably. Could a PlayStation phone do any better? I wouldn’t hold my breath.

  • Halo theme song now a free download for Guitar Hero III

By Feigned, Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

    Halo

We’re all Guitar Heroes here at GamerFront, so you can bet that we love new content. It’s been pretty hard to pull us away from Rock Band though. We’ll have to make a little time over the weekend for the latest GH III downloadable track: the Halo theme song.

That’s right, Microsoft and Activision are bringing you yet another track for free. Granted, the Boss Battle pack never should have happened in the first place, but it was still a good guesture.

One has to wonder if the timing for this latest freebie has anything to do with the launch of Rock Band. Surely not.

Lightsaber accessory is a perfect match for Lego Star Wars

By Feigned, Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

    Wiimote Lightsaber

It seems like the Wiimote has almost as many crazy accessories as the iPod. Swords, zappers, boxing gloves, you name it. It’s only been a matter of time before someone created a lightsaber attachement, especially after Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga allowed you to control a lightsaber with your Wiimote for the first time.

Thankfully, someone heard the cries of would-be Jedi across the land and created the perfect accessory. The Wii Light Sword has 22 ultra bright blue LEDs that are powered by 3 AA batteries.

The $31 you spend on it won’t improve your lightsaber skills, however, it will make you look like a complete idiot real Jedi. You can bet that this one is on my Christmas list.

  • Sony cuts PS3 dev kit price by 50%

By Feigned, Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

    Dev kit

A lot of people will argue that the reason the PS3 sales haven’t been that great (until recently) is due to the fact that there aren’t a lot of good games on the market. Some developers will tell you that the PS3 is more difficult to program for than any other current-gen console on the market. Another good reason is that the dev kits are expensive, which makes it difficult for smaller studios to work on titles for Sony’s console.

While the issue of programming difficulties isn’t likely to get better, Sony has taken a huge step in making their kits accessible to smaller companies. They have slashed the price down to $10,250 in the US, which is roughly a 50% reduction. Europe and Japan should also see a similar cut.

Here’s to hoping that this move will lead to more PS3-native games, rather than just having them ported over from the 360. Sony has been making some good moves lately, lets hope it pays off.

Others however, have simply played Avatar: The Legend of Aang: Burning Earth. Hit the jump and you’ll see what I mean.

  • Super Mario Bros. Cupcakes

By Kat, Monday, November 19th, 2007

    Super Mario Cupcakes

I am always a sucker for all things Mario Bros. so these Mario inspired cupcakes are right up my alley. If I knew anyone who could decorate cupcakes this well, I’d be requesting them for my birthday every year.

I tend to enjoy baking as a side hobby, but nothing I’ve made has ever turned out like that. The baker of these cupcakes has several other not so geeky cakes that will keep you drooling for quite some time.

Is it excessively shallow to marry someone for their nerdy baking skills? I’m pretty sure in this particular case I would. That is if I could actually marry someone of the same sex within the U.S. Until the day I can marry off to someone just for their game themed baking, I will just have to salivate over the pictures on her flickr account.

  • World of Datecraft - yes it’s what you think it is

By Kat, Monday, November 19th, 2007

    Hot WoW people to date

World of Datecraft is exactly what it sounds like, a dating site for WoW players. It features different players’ photographs and information to make sure the frequent WoW players still get to have a bit of a life in the outside world.

For the record notice all the girls, all those myths about girl gamers are bull and this is proof. Not only are there plenty of attractive girls, there are attractive guys too. Just register and list what you’re looking for, either girls or guys. You apparently can’t choose both, it’s against the rules, or something like that.

The site is fairly new from the looks of it and are currently having a small competition, the winner gets a 60-day game card. If you’re just on to get a few more guildies you can do a search by server to see who you can get to join your crew.

  • Hot Rock Band Fan Art

By Kat, Monday, November 19th, 2007

    Hot Rockband figurine fan art

Rock Band already has a huge following and it hasn’t even hit the shelves yet. The Rock Band fans are of course the faithful fans of Harmonix, the original crew for Guitar Hero. Well this Rock Band fan has decided to make a bit of fan art already.

This custom resin kit, likely based off of this particular figurine shows a scantily clad girl hanging out with her Rock Band controller. The figurine is horribly and completely slutty, however, you have to appreciate a guy who takes the time to show his love for a game that at best he has played in Best Buy.

That is unless he snagged himself a tour like Apathy and Feigned. Just so we’re clear I am horribly jealous that they got to go. The custom job was done by Kotaku reader, Peter.

SimCity Societies makes an attempt to go green

By Kat, Monday, November 19th, 2007

    SimCity Societies

I am actually not a huge SimCity fan, it has never really sparked my interest. I do quite a bit of gaming, but I just never got the urge to play SimCity. However, I have to admit SimCity incoorperating a few green aspects instantly caught my attention. First wondering how on earth a video game was going to help save the earth.

Well it doesn’t exactly help you recycle or conserve energy. You instead attempt to create a green society within the game. You have to choose the power source and then the game gives you information about CO2 emissions and smog-causing pollutants created by your paticular choice. If you have too much it will effect the city’s environment and the well-being of the residents.

Although SimCity is in no way an educational game, it would seem they have decided to educate the SimCity fans about environmental issues. It is definitely a new angle on educating others about these kind of issues. If you want to check out the new SimCity Societies, it hit the stores this week and is being sold for $49.99.
