World of Warcraft Cataclysm Will Launch On Pacific Time

I am sure that the East Coast World of Warcraft players can reminisce on the memory that when the previous expansions for the game came out they were able to play three hours before their West Coast brethren. Blizzard has decided to even the odds this time, as they have announced that Cataclysm will go live on December 7th at 12:01 AM Pacific Standard Time.

The company set in stone the launch time for Cataclysm in a statement that clarified a handful of informative notes about the upcoming expansion. With the availability of Cataclysm as an online upgrade, which is the first in the WoW history, Blizzard is reworking the way they release expansions. Instead of having East Coast servers up at 12 AM EST ans West Coast servers up at 12 AM PST, the whole deal will be set according to Pacific time.

Here are the official times:

Americas, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia – December 7 at 12:01 a.m. PST
Europe and Russia – December 7 at 12:01 a.m. CET

This effectively means that players who are attending midnight release events (and there will be one up here for our Bloomington friends) will have plenty of time to power nap before settling in their comfy computer chairs and descending back into a scarred Azeroth.

Blizzard also took the opportunity to clarify the availability of cinematic movies via direct download. Prior to Cataclysm’s release, Blizzard will patch the expansion’s opening cinematic to players. All other cinematics (including Wrathgate) will be available for download via the game’s patcher as well.

Well it looks like I am going to have plenty of time to eat and nap when I pick up Cataclysm.

Thanks Blizzard.
