PS3 Hackers Killing Modern Warfare 2’s Playability

With the PS3 system security lying in shambles, hackers have overrun Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty games. Players can easily fall into a trap by being placed on a hacked server which can cause them to lose their stats, and there doesn’t look like there is a fix in sight.

Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling posted on Modern Warfare 2’s official forums:

“Games rely on the security of the encryption on the platforms they’re played on. Unless the security exploit itself is resolved on the platform … updates to the game through patches will not resolve this problem. At this time, we do not have the ability to restore or adjust individual stats.”

Bowling admits that, “we are looking at every option available to us to help any user affected.” Even with the team looking into fixing this situation, it does look rather dire. Right now the options available to affected players out there are to submit a grief report via the PSN, play exclusively with friends via private matches, or jump up to Black Ops. Black Ops does “not rely solely on platform security,” which is something Infinity Ward plans to learn from in future titles.
