Soul Calibur V Details Released

Soul Calibur V has just been announced, and now we have some details to go along with the news. The release date for the game will be sometime during 2012, but as for anything else, we were skimming by. Going through the announcements we were able to pick out some more information that we wanted to add to the game’s announcement.

Let’s go over the character selection in Soul Calibur 5. We know that Sophitia’s children have a big role in the upcoming game. Her son, Patroklos will take a specific part in the game’s story line. As children, Patroklos and his sister Pyrrha were touched by the evil essence of Soul Edge which has eternally bound them to the sword’s fate. We can speculate what will happen to Sophitia’s loved ones, possibly seeing one take the path of evil while the other fights for good? Other than this, we know our favorite characters like Siegfried, Taki, and Mitsurugi will be making their appearance, albeit looking a bit aged. Mystery characters will show up, as well as the ability to create one’s own character.

Other changes to the game include new designs for Soul Edge and Soul Calibur. They will now be short swords instead of the usual long swords we’ve seen them as. The game takes place 17 years after the last game and now shows a “generational shift,” hence Sophitia’s children. The announcements also point at the fact that Team Soul wants the combat in the game to feel more “light and elegant” as opposed to choppy and sluggish. Combos will be easier to execute, and the game will be made more approachable for newcomers. This may give some the fear that the game will be “nerfed,” as some call it, but it also could be a great decision.
