A Look At The Infamous Halo Assault Rifle

Just about every game has an iconic weapon, Gears of War has the Lancer, Dead Space has the Plasma Cutter, and Halo has the Assault rifle. More thought and planning went into the design of the Assault rifle than most people think. So once again going along with Bungie week I am going to talk about the details of this iconic Halo Weapon.

If you haven’t already noticed, the Halo Assault rifle is actually different in almost every one of the Halo FPS titles (with the exception of Halo 2 where it was swapped out by the Battle Rifle). In four of the five games you use a variation of the assault rifle. In Halo: Reach you use the MA37 (MA5) ICWS or Individual Combat Weapon System. In Halo: CE you are equipped with the MA5B, and in Halo 3 and ODST you have the MA5C. All of the MA5 series are of bullpup design, which means that the action (bolt, firing pin, and magazine are behind the trigger) this allows for a shorter weapon length and longer barrel. The weapon is also air cooled; gas operated and fires a 7.62 Caliber Round. All of the rifles have an on board computer the lists remaining ammo and compass heading. Of the three the MA5B has a 60 round magazine where the other two on have a 32 round capacity.

All around the Assault Rifle is very plausible to be a real gun, with its built-in compass, ammo level indicator, and iconic look and sound. The MA5 series are  some of my all-time favorite weapons of any game franchise. What is your take on the Assault rifle, love it, hate it, indifferent? Leave us your thoughts, until next time remember firing short controlled bursts will lead to better accuracy, and have a happy Bungie week!
