Valve Now Working On Their Own Free-To-Play Game

Doug Lombardi, Valve’s Vice President of Marketing, confirmed that the company will be entering the Free-To-Play (F2P) market to coincide with the recent release of F2P titles on Steam. French gaming site Barre de vie recently snagged an interview with Lombardi, and asked if the developers would be making their presence known in the F2P market. Lombardi responded with a simple, “Yes.”

No details were given, which means we’re left to speculate on what Valve will be throwing at us in the ways of a F2P title. Most likely it will resemble the success of DotA, possibly something like League of Legends. Who knows, maybe they will just make DotA 2 free to play? We can still dream, right?

Either way, we will have to wait on more word before we can officially state anything that the company is planning. So we’ll sit here patiently, all while sparking jokes that Half-Life 2: Episode 3 will be their great F2P venture, then crying about it. Given this new announcement, what do you think Valve will push out as their first F2P title?
