Borderlands Will See Cloud Saving, Data Collection, And More

There’s no question that Gearbox Software’s biggest amount of attention is with Borderlands 2. While this is true, the developer isn’t shying away from what made fans get their start into the series – its debut title. Randy Pitchford, head of the developer, spoke a bit at the Gearbox PAX Prime panel on what players can expect with the new game, as well as the original Borderlands title.

During the panel, Pitchford told us that Borderlands will be receiving a massive update that will add new features that fans will undoubtedly be excited about. The game’s Steam version on PC will add what Gearbox is calling the “BTest” update, which will allow the developer to gather play data (which weapons are used, player tactics, skill use, etc.) that will ultimately be used in the development of Borderlands 2. On top of this, the game will enable Steam Cloud saving support, allowing players to take their game everywhere, without taking up too much space.

The update will launch on September 9th, which is right around the corner. No news on any changes to the console versions of the game, though this is still some great news. I’m looking forward to Borderlands 2, and I still love playing the original game. What about you?
