Steam User Forums Hacked, Went Offline

A Steam user group known as FknOwned decided to upgrade their hacking shenanigans from merely enabling cheating in Steam games to taking on the entire Steam forums. The group hacked the site and inserted a personal ad which promised hacks, hacking tutorials, porn, free giveaways, and much more. Some Steam users also reported this ad coming in a personal email from Steam. Of course, this was spam.

In response to this alleged attack, Valve has taken the forums down for maintenance, with an unscheduled time for continuance. That means that no one can login or use the site, with no word on when they will be back up.

We’ll be waiting for word from Valve on when the forums will be back up, and we’ll update as soon as it rolls in. So far nothing else has been seen from FknOwned, but that doesn’t mean the group isn’t hiding out in the shadows. Let’s hope that Valve can set the forums straight before anything real big can happen.
