Ludum Dare – Notch Created Minicraft, A New Game In 48 Hours

Ludum Dare is an annual competition for indie game developers where they have just 48 hours to create a full, functional game. Tons of devs from all over the world compete each year, and this year was no surprise. Even Notch, the creator of the hit PC phenomenon Minecraft, took part. In just two days he created a fully working game, and called it Minicraft.

The game runs in Java, and you can play it in your browser right now on the Ludum Dare Website. It functions somewhat like Minecraft, and it has an actual purpose. The goal of the game is to kill the only other sentient being in the world, thus making you forever alone. It’s heart-warming, right?

The game is free, just like the thousands of others that are on the site. The Ludum Dare competition is a great chance for indie game developers to get their name out there, and for those new to developing games to learn. There are a lot of great games on the site, and they’re all worth a look. Take some time and check out the site, while you’re at it play Minicraft!
