Last night, many players of Star Wars Galaxies cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. If you liked the game, you proabably knew that the end was nigh back in June, as the Star Wars license was revoked. However, the official shutdown happened last night, and a moment of silence has been shared across the Star Wars Galaxies community.
This game that was loved by players the world over started in 2003, and was updated until about 2006. LucasArts thought the game would be able to exist alongside Star Wars: The Old Republic, even though there would be some overlap, but it seems as though we’ll all just have to deal with playing The Old Republic.
It does suck that a sort of era has ended, but we will trudge on. And then change our pace to a giddy run towards the new and shiny game that will finally be launching this month. Sony Online Entertainment gave the partings words that went some like this:
“On behalf of the Star Wars Galaxies team, thank you. We have truly enjoyed getting to know you – our dedicated players – over the years. From in-game events to Fan Faires, we appreciate your continued loyalty and support. It would not have been possible without you.”
