When was the last time you bought a brand new game for your Super Nintendo? Sure, you might have picked up a sealed copy of Final Fantasy IV or something, but it’s been more than a decade since new games were produced for the system. Well prepare to dust off that old grey console, because there’s a new game on the way.
Developed by Super Fighter Team, Nightmare Busters will be the first new game released on the SNES since 1998. By the time it is released in 2013, it will have been 15 years between releases for Nintendo’s second console. Of course, you might have a little trouble getting your hands on it.
The company has stated that the initial run is limited to 600 copies, though it is possible that they will produce more if there is a great enough demand. The price will be the same as a brand new game on a current-gen console, which is $60. You’ll need to add $8 or $15 for shipping, depending on whether you live in the US or abroad.
So what does your hard-earned cash get you? You’ll get a fully-functional cartridge that runs on both NTSC and PAL consoles, complete with the traditional full color label on it. A full color instruction manual, and a full color cardstock box to house both game and manual in. In essence, it will be just like buying a game back in the day. As for Nightmare Busters itself, it will be an old-style run and gun game, which was actually in development back when the console was still king of the hill. The question is whether or not you’re willing to shell out $60 for some retro glory.
