PlayStation 3 Users Won’t Be Getting The Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Promotions

Recently there have been events running on the weekends on Mass Effect 3 to help promote the game’s multiplayer mode and grant rewards to players who participate. These events have been running smoothly on the Xbox 360 and PC, but they’ve been lacking when it comes to the PS3. We’ve been wondering why this has been happening, and we’ve finally gotten an answer. According to EA, the blame goes to Sony.

Eduardo Vasconcellos, the Community Manager for Electronic Arts, posted on the official BioWare blog an explanation for the lack of promotions on the PS3:

This Operation is currently available to Xbox 360 and PC users only, and will run from Friday, April 13th at 5PM PST to Monday, April 16th 5AM PST. Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer our Multiplayer Challenge weekends on PlayStation 3. Sony has not yet approved the promotion. We continue to work with them to find a compromise, but until then, Sony will not allow us to run the same Multiplayer Challenges on the PlayStation 3 that we run on Xbox 360 and PC.

So it looks like Sony won’t give the go ahead for the events just because they’re similarly being run on both the 360 and PC. Until this issue gets resolved, PS3 players will be forced to sit out. This week’s promotion is pretty sweet, as it allows anyone who participates a special pack which will unlock a random alien class to play. There’s no real telling what the specific issue is with Sony, but we can only hope that it’s something that will get resolved quickly.
