Though it wasn’t immensely popular, the Metal Gear Online service managed to grab some dedicated fans during its run. It even managed to remain running past its initial stopping point, though the plug has now officially been pulled. The Metal Gear Online service is no longer active as of today.
Fans started asking for multiplayer Metal Gear years ago, and MGO delivered everything those fans were asking for. It allowed players to come together to test out their superior espionage skills on the battlefield. Each Metal Gear fan could partake in lengthy battles that really put your tactical prowess to the test.
By now the servers are all offline, as they set to go down at 23:59 Japanese Standard Time. Today marks the end of a great service, and a great game for fans of the Metal Gear series. As a fan myself I can’t help but feel a sense of loss today, though I do hope Konami can find a way to bring more of the Metal Gear experience back to players soon.
