At E3 this year, one of the best looking games we’ve seen is a zombie themed Wii U exclusive aptly named “ZombiU”. Now, while there will be plenty of people who will want to buy the Wii U, perhaps in part because of this game, there is always going to be those people who will refuse to buy it, for one reason or another. What do you do if you want to play ZombiU, but you don’t want the console?
Apparently, according to Ubisoft, that answer is to just wait. According to an interview with senior vice president of sales and marketing of Ubisoft Tony Key, you might see ZombiU show up on the Xbox 360 and PS3, thanks to Microsoft’s new SmartGlass technology and Sony’s PS3/Vita CrossPlay. According to Key, having multiple screens is the emerging trend of the industry, and Ubisoft is experimenting with ways to have those kinds of game appear on multiple platforms.
It’s an interesting concept, having ZombiU appear on the PS3 and Xbox 360, but I don’t see that happening necessarily. With the Xbox 360’s SmartGlass technology, it appears to be fairly limited in what it can do. It doesn’t appear to be designed with gaming in mind, but rather to take advantage of the Xbox 360’s multimedia capabilities. The PS3/Vita CrossPlay seems a bit more realistic, but given that so far all the titles for CrossPlay require a copy of the game for both systems, and also the fact that not every PS3 owner is going to have a Vita, I don’t see it working too well for the PS3 either. But, that’s not a big deal, because at this point, Ubisoft is only worried about getting ZombiU out to the Wii U in time for the systems launch. If they decide to go multiplatform for this awesome looking game, you can bet we’ll be looking into it!
