There’s nothing in the world quite like having a very specific gamertag. There’s a sense of pride you take away from having one that is obscure, and knowing that no one else would probably use it. Now, should you happen to come across a game where someone else has already taken it, your moment of sadness will come and pass, as there’s nothing you can do.
If you are an avid player of Guild Wars, and don’t want to have to filter through the leftover names for Guild Wars 2, you might want to reserve yours now. Otherwise, you’ll be adding on numbers to your name, hoping that no one has “whateveritis1”. You only have until the July 31st to do so. This will be quite different from most MMOs as this is not going to be world/server specific, and will work across the whole game.
Keep in mind though that your chosen name will not be reserved indefinitely. You have to create a Guild Wars 2 character with the same name during the Headstart Access period or on launch day. If you wait, they will release all the unclaimed names to the awaiting masses. You can reserve your name by being an “active” Guild Wars player, meaning that you have logged in at least once between this past January 1st and the 31st of this month.
