When many people think of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, they remain adamant that the Genesis/Sega CD Sonic’s are the only true Sonic games. After all, it was the 2d platformer perfected, with a perfect balance of speed, puzzle solving, and excitement that you rarely see in a game. I like to contend, however, that the Sonic Adventure games for the Dreamcast were just as good as their Genesis ancestors.
That’s why I’m excited to hear that there will be an HD remake of Sonic Adventure 2! While it may not be perfect (who really liked those gem collection levels, anyway?) it was a game that kept me entertained for hours on end, and helped hone my skills as a gamer when I got to deal with the insidious final few levels. I’ll even admit that I bought the soundtrack while on vacation in Florida one year, such was my love for this game!
At this point, there are no real details about the remake. The game was re-released once for the Gamecube as Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, which is what I had played back in the day. The HD remake should feature the extras from Battle, if I had to guess, and will likely have some more modern features employed like achievements or trophies, and maybe even some DLC. We won’t know for sure until more information is released.
