Guild Wars 2 Performance Listed By GPU

When a new PC game is about to launch, people tend to look for the system requirements, so that they can guess how the game might run on their computer. Unfortunately all you really get to see are the minimum and recommended specs. No hard data on how the game will perform depending on what you use. Well, the ArenaNET team has been doing some stress tests on Guild Wars 2, and they’ve given us some of that hard data that we’re looking for.

The first thing that was stressed is that you really need to make sure that your graphics card drivers are up to date. They even posted a handy chart showing how one particular Nvidia driver impacted the performance of several different cards. The difference was significant, with a GTX 680 seeing a 20+ FPS drop just by using the 301.42 driver.

My favorite part of the post was that they benchmarked 27 graphics cards (both desktop and mobile), plus Intel’s integrated graphics. The results are averages pulled from all participants of the stress tests who were using an i5 CPU or better, to ensure that the CPU wasn’t a bottleneck. We’re not sure exactly what in-game settings were used to achieve these results, but since they were captured during a stress test, it’s probably safe to assume that these are the max settings.
