From the dawn of console gaming up until the first half of the 2000′s games were generally limited to the console they were released on. That meant if you wanted to play your old copy of NiGHTS you had to drag out your old Sega Saturn, and assuming it even worked you had to deal with the fact that those games just didn’t look quite as good on that giant flat screen HDTV you now have in your living room. That’s all about to change for NiGHTS and Sonic Adventure 2 fans, however!
Starting October 2nd on the PSN and October 5th on the Xbox Live you can download both games directly to your console for $9.99/800 Microsoft Points. Mind you, that’s 10 bucks for HD remakes of those games, so they’re bound to look great on that TV of yours. NiGHTS even comes with the special Christmas NiGHTS holiday-themed expansion for free!
Now for the bad news, in my mind. You see, while NiGHTS comes with that free bit of “DLC”, if you want to get Sonic Adventure 2′s Battle Mode, which had come with the Gamecube version of the game you have to pony up an extra 3 bucks, or 240 Microsoft points. I’m not going to lie, that kind of chafes with me, and at this point it reeks of greed. But, at the same time however, I’m not going to worry too much about it. If I really want to play Battle Mode I’ll just dig out that ol’ Gamecube of mine that’s stuffed in the closet.
