Guild Wars 2 Halloween Event Unravels

AreaNet has posted details on the upcoming Halloween event that’s set for Guild Wars 2. This first major in-game event has been called Shadow of the Mad King, and it’s being set to bring all sorts of terrible fright to the players. It will start up on October 22nd and run for a full week, adding dungeons and more to the game for a short period of time.

Shadow of the Mad King will follow the lore of Mad King Thorn, the spirit that’s believed to spread insanity throughout the lands of Tyria in the original Guild Wars each Halloween. Thorn hasn’t been spotted in over two and a half centuries, though the game’s official website notes that “something wicked this way comes.”

Tyria will become decorated for the occasion, and players will be able to take part in dynamic events, puzzles, themed mini-dungeons and they can also gain special in-game achievements for completing certain events. The developers explain the holiday on the game’s official site as a time “when barriers between the realms are weakest.”

Players will have access to brand new items that can be picked up from the Black Lion Trading Company including costumes and other items that let you show other players up in a costume contest. Lastly there will be paid PVP tournaments that players can engage in with 5v5 teams. These tournaments will offer up better prizes than the current ones available, and through these events players can gain points that will allow them to compete in much larger tournaments in the future. It’s a great way to celebrate a great holiday, so make sure you get ready to spook each other!
