Team Fortress 2 – I Have No Idea What I’m Doing, But I Like It

A little while back I wrote up a post about how I enjoy MOBA games, but I’m not really good at them. Thankfully there were some really great comments on the post and I took plenty of advice from them all. Now I’d like to think I’m a bit better of a player, and I’ve personally grown to like the game more than before. With LAN War XXIII coming up this weekend, it’s made me think back to another game that I love playing, though I don’t feel that I’m too skilled at it: Team Fortress 2.

When it comes to the game I usually stick to two classes: Heavy and Medic. I don’t come at the game with much skill in either class, and I usually stick to the Control Point game modes. This way I don’t have to worry about escorting or trying to run after enemy intel. With the Control Points game mode I hop in as a Heavy and proceed to mow down dudes left and right. I don’t really need to worry about much, though the one tip I did pick up from other players is that if I jump and spin my barrel apparently it spins quicker. I also picked up the Sandvich, though I have no idea what it’s for. I am pretty sure it restores some of your health when you eat it, but that’s a guess. I spent some money in the Mann Co. shop and picked up some new gear for the Heavy and it’s become my favorite class. I just like to come out of nowhere and light dudes up. It’s a pretty simple class, and I feel I’m the best at it.

The Medic is my second favorite class. I rather enjoy healing people, and it makes me feel like a vital part of the team. I know how to use my Ubercharge, and along with a Heavy we can make an unstoppable team. On its own the Medic isn’t a reliable class, but as long as I’m protected I can be very important. Sometimes, catching an enemy off-guard I can saw them to death, but it doesn’t happen often. I have a lot of fun as a Medic, and it’s the class I feel I’ve the most strategy with.

The other classes I don’t play much. I’ve dabbled with the Pyro before, and I can sometimes do a lot of damage as that class. I am working on using the Flare Gun more and trying to get better trick shots. Plus, it’s a lot of fun to set things on fire. If you time it right you can manage to get the whole enemy team to be set ablaze with one fell swoop. That can be really fun.

I haven’t played the Sniper, Demoman, Spy, Engineer, or Soldier, though I’ve played a bit as the Scout. Team Fortress 2 is another one of those games for me that I just play what I enjoy. I know that tournaments are ran all over for the game, and I’ve seen them first-hand at the LAN events I’ve been to. When it comes down to it, I have no idea what I’m doing in the game aside from trying to either mow guys down or heal the other dude that does. Still, I love playing the game and have a lot of fun with it. I may invest some time to become a better and more skilled player, and I may jump into a tournament if I find a team. Just like with other games it will take time to become a better player, and you have to have the drive to get better.

If any of you have any tips, I’d love to hear them. I’d also love to know what some of your favorite classes are, and other games where you play them just for fun, though you don’t necessarily have a full idea of what you’re doing. I can’t be the only one, right?
