Ace of Spades Shooter Officially Announced By Jagex

Jagex, the same developers responsible for the Runescape MMO, have formally announced their upcoming shooter title Ace of Spades. The game is currently set to release via Steam this December, and it brings with it an already dedicated amount of half a million active players.

The game has been in its prototype stage for right over a year now, and it’s been downloaded and installed by over 2 million players. The graphics remind us a lot of Minecraft, and it’s even being described as Minecraft meets Team Fortress 2. Up to 32 players can battle at any one time on a sandbox world where fortresses, bunkers, and more can be constructed in real-time while playing.

David Solari, CEO of Jagex, came out and spoke a bit about the game’s release. “If you’re tired of the same old first-person shooters coming out year after year with a fresh lick of paint and a hefty price tag, then Ace of Spades will tick all the boxes for you, offering an all action multiplayer featuring up to 32-player FPS combat and a fully customizable environment which will continuously develop through your battle,” he says. “We have blended the artistic style of voxel-based sandbox games, such as Minecraft, with the class-based combat of titles like Team Fortress, and added an extra dimension with real-time evolving battlefields to create a game which we firmly believe will appeal to FPS gamers looking for a bigger challenge.”

I think the concept is there, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Jagex can deliver. A lot of Minecraft players have been asking Mojang to put guns into the game, which the developer will not do. Guns just don’t make sense in Minecraft in my opinion. With Ace of Spades, you’ll get the open-world feel with guns and explosions and crafting. It’s all you need!
