Fantasy Flight Announces Kessel Run Event For X-Wing Miniatures
It looks like Fantasy Flight has had a delay in their factory which means that the second wave of X-Wing Miniatures expansions won’t be shipping out until February of next year. Though this is sad news, the company did manage to get some of the expansions airshipped in for a limited run of special preview events for which they are available. As long as your local game store applies before November 15th, they can help put on one of these events the company is aptly calling The Kessel Run. The Kessel Run preview event will be an exclusive X-Wing tournament that will take place on December 14th – 16th, and a limited number of retailers will have a chance to participate. Through the event players will be able to take their first look at the expansion ships in action!
Here’s what will be available in The Kessel Run kit:
- One Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack
- One Slave I Expansion Pack
- Two A-Wing Expansion Packs
- Two TIE Interceptor Expansion Packs
- An promotional poster featuring art from the expansions
- An instructional letter detailing how to run a Kessel Run tournament
Curious on how this will all work? Don’t worry, the details are all right here. Participating retailers will run an X-Wing tournament on the weekend of December 14th – 16th. Players will assemble 100-point squadrons and compete throughout Swiss-style preliminary rounds following the standard rules according to the X-Wing tournament document. When the tournament reaches the final round, everything changes. After the preliminary rounds close out the tournament’s two top players put their squadrons away and take control of preview squads built from the event kits.
One player will run two A-Wings while the other will run two TIE Interceptors and the deadly Slave I. Then each of the tournament’s top four participants will claim one of the preview expansions. Here’s how the prizes work:
- 1st Place – First choice of one Kessel Run preview ship
- 2nd Place – Second choice of one Kessel Run preview ship
- 3rd Place – Third choice of one Kessel Run preview ship
- 4th Place – Fourth choice of one Kessel Run preview ship
