StarCraft II: Heart Of The Swarm Shooting For 2013 Release

Stop me if you’ve heard this before! It turns out that StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm will not be out in 2012, but instead will likely be coming out sometime in the first half of 2013. The news was announced during an investors call yesterday.

It had been speculated that with the beta being in full swing that we might see the Heart of the Swarm by the end of the year. However, the idea of the game coming out in 2012 seemed to blow away in the wind when summer turned into fall and we still hadn’t heard word about an official release date. Now that it’s November I don’t really expect Blizzard to release a game until well after the holiday season is over, when things calm down and return to normal.

At this point in time, is it really surprising that a Blizzard game is taking a long time to develop? While people may make mentions of “Valve Time” when it comes to the release of their games, Blizzard has been a master at delaying games for years. Not that that’s a bad thing, mind you, because usually that means they’re trying to get a perfect product out from the get-go.
