When it comes to superhero movies and games there is one hero that stands over everybody else: Batman. After all, he’s been the star of a long series of successful movies (Well, all except for Batman & Robin, maybe…), TV shows, and video games. There’s not too many other franchises that can say they’ve had as much success, and I think part of it has to do with the fact that Arkham Asylum and Arkham City aren’t tie-ins with the Christopher Nolan movies.
At this point, there’s been no news about any new Batman games or movies, but speculation is abound as it appears that Warner Bros. has gone ahead and registered 15 different domain names. The domain names themselves all revolved around “Arkham”, like “batmanarkhamdarknight.com” and “dcarkhamuniverse.com” While some people have commented on the fact that this could be for a possible post-Nolan Batman movie, I’m not so sure.
Instead, if I had to guess from the URL’s I’d say that Warner Bros. is gearing up to launch some sort of Batman MMO, with names like DC Arkham Universe, and Batman Arkham Universe. Some of the other URL’s are amalgamations of “Arkham” and Nolan’s movies, like “Batman Arkahm Begins” and “Batman Arkham Dark Knight”, which suggest to me that Warner Bros. picked those domains up just to protect their intellectual property. And while that might be the case with all 15 registered domains, I’m willing to bet that we’re going to find out something more concrete soon about a new Batman-related project.
