Earlier in the week Bethesda announced that they were no longer going to be doing any serious development for Skyrim, outside of bug fixes. The reason they gave was that they’ve started some pre-production work for a brand new game, and after working on Skyrim for years it was time for them to move on. And move on they have, because this isn’t another Elder Scrolls or Fallout, but rather a whole new IP.
The game is calledThe Evil Within, and it’s being developed in particular by Tango Gameworks, under the direction of Shinji Mikami. You might know him as the creator of the Resident Evil series of games, so that should give you a huge clue as to what kind of game this is. Here’s another clue: it’s not about ponies and sunshine.
The Evil Within will be released in 2014 for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and other next generation consoles. There is an official trailer up on IGN.com that you can view, though you might be a bit disappointed. It doesn’t actually show any game play footage, as it’s all live action. Still though, it definitely looks like a creepy game that only a man like Mikami can create.
