Crytek Looking To Acquire The Darksiders IP In THQ Auction

When THQ was shut down earlier this year most of the developers with their subsequent IP’s were auctioned off and gobbled up by many different companies. However, one studio wasn’t picked up, and as a result it was shut down: Virgil. And while many ex-Virgil employees were picked up by Crytek and were subsequently formed into a new studio, Crytek USA, their IP that was most identifiable with that development studio,Darksiders, was lost in the shuffle.

Of course, it wasn’t the only IP that failed to find a new home, and so the rest of THQ’s back catalog of IP’s are being auctioned off from today, April 1st, to April 15th. With 35 ex-Vigil employees in the company, it’s not surprising to hear that Crytek USA will be going ahead and placing a bid on the Darksiders IP. As far as CEO David Adams is concerned, Darksiders “belongs at home with its creators”.

However, if you’re looking for a Darksiders 3, you might be a little disappointed. According to an interview CEO Cevat Yerli conducted back in early February, the company isn’t looking to continue with Darksiders 3 as it “doesn’t fit with our strategy.” Will that all change if they pick up the franchise? I guess all we can do is wait.
