We’ve known (officially) about the PS4 for quite some time now, but we haven’t heard a thing about Microsoft’s next console. Sure, we’ve heard plenty of rumors about the console, mostly about how it’s going to require an always on internet connection, but we haven’t heard anything definite and official. Well it looks like we’ll be hearing about it next month, because according to Eurogamer.net Microsoft’s next console will be revealed on May 21st.
According to their sources, the console will be simply dubbed “Xbox”. It should launch sometime in early November, and it’s going to come in two different flavors, so to speak. There will be a normal $500 model, and a lower $300 model that will require some sort of subscription, probably Microsoft Gold if I had to guess.
Unfortunately it’s looking more and more likely that the console will require a constant internet connection to use. According to Microsoft analyst Paul Thurrot, he said that “(l)ooking at some of the stuff I got a long time ago, it actually says ‘must be internet-connected to use’ in the notes”. If Microsoft really does go with an always-online requirement for the system then I really have to wonder as what Microsoft is thinking, because there’s no way that they’re going to do nearly as well with this new console as they did with the Xbox 360.
