Relic May Very Well Be Working With Games Workshop On Latest Dawn Of War Game

When Relic Entertainment was bought out by Sega earlier this year when THQ went under, I have to admit I was a bit excited. After all, Relic was the game developer who created the Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War series, and Sega owns Creative Assembly, the people who made the excellent Total War series. I was hoping to see that maybe we’d get some sort of Warhammer 40k: Total War type of game, but there was a bit of an issue: did the Warhammer 40k license go with Relic to Sega?

At this time, that question is still unknown, but according to game director Quinn Duffy it looks like Relic may get to keep working with the IP, even if they’re not the only company making 40k games. That’s because Games Workshop owns the license to 40k, and can decide who can make what. Since Relic has worked well with Games Workshop in the past, and also since Creative Assembly is working on a game for the fantasy counterpart to 40k, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Relic’s name on the box for Dawn of War 3.

At one point in the past Dawn of War 3 was set to come out between August 2012 and February 2013, but because of THQ’s woes that plan was put on the back burner. Now that it’s been several months since they last worked on the project, Duffy has said that they’ll want to start essentially from the beginning, and improve on the technology. But hey, if you’re going to make a game, then make it worthwhile! After all that’s happened to THQ and Relic fans, they deserve it, I think.
