Microsoft Announces “Xbox One”

Microsoft had its long-awaited console reveal today in Washington State, opening up the conference with shots of its new gaming platform, Xbox One.  While no specifics have been revealed regarding the specs of the actual console, the following details were announced:

  • 8 GBs of RAM
  • 3.0 USB ports
  • Blu-Ray drive
  • 64-bit architecture
  • Wi-Fi Direct

The Kinect, while not integrated into the Xbox itself, is still included with the Xbox one.  Marc Whitten of Microsoft claimed during the conference that the Kinect would feature a 1080p HD camera, with a wider field of view and a better understanding of joints and the way that they move.  He even claimed the Kinect could read your heartbeat while exercising.

While the term “Cloud-Based” has been dropped several times and the insinuation has been made that the Xbox One will require an always-on connection, no outright statement of whether or not the console can function without the internet has been made.  Though obviously, Microsoft is showing off these features like no tomorrow.
