So, let’s be honest, the Wii U hasn’t exactly been flying off the shelves. While there’s no single cause to the system’s lackluster adoption rate, fact is if Nintendo continues to do nothing then the Wii U is going to utterly fail. Well, Nintendo doesn’t want that to happen, so doing something about it they are.
Nintendo announced yesterday that they are dropping the price of the Wii U Deluxe version from $349 to $299. This drop in price will go into effect September 20th, and should help the Wii U’s sales figures out a bit, especially since the PS4 and Xbox One are both due to come out in November. Unfortunately, by making the price drop 3 weeks in advance, the Wii U’s sales will undoubtedly take a hit here until the new price goes into effect.
Besides the price drop September 20th, Nintendo is also releasing a special Wind Waker HD Bundle for release that same day. For $299, you get a special Wind Waker-themed Deluxe Wii U and controller, a download code for the digital version of Hyrule Historia, as well as a digital download code for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD! Unfortunately, the deal is only available at GameStop. At this time, there is no news on the Basic Wii U getting a price cut, as it’s been assumed that that model has been phased out.
