Between the Xbox One and the PS4 it looks like both consoles are pretty much equal. They both have 8 GBs of RAM in them, they both feature 8-core processors, and they both have 500 GB hard drives. The biggest difference between the two, however, is the fact that the PS4 has a beefier GPU, and it becomes evident just how much beefier it is as while many Xbox One games are set to run in 720p, the PS4 versions are set to run in glorious 1080p.
If you pick up Call of Duty: Ghosts with your PS4 tomorrow, however, and drive right into the single player without downloading the day one patch you’ll notice that the graphics aren’t running in 1080p. Instead, according to Activision there was a configuration issue with the retail version of the game in single player that makes the game run at 720p. Luckily, if you just download the patch for the game you’ll get that sweet, sweet 1080p goodness.
It’s a little surprising to me to see that a patch is required to bump a game up from 720p to 1080p. After all, I would figure that the textures and models would already be in the form they need to be in on the disc, but then again I’m not a game programmer. I’m just glad that if a game comes out looking less than stellar that developers even have the opportunity to patch it no problem!
