Vita 3.00 Update Is Now Available For Download, Adds PS4-Centric Features

With the PS4 coming out in a little over a week, I think it’s pretty easy to say that folks everywhere are getting pretty excited. After all, the new console will become Sony’s workhorse for the next 5-7 years, at least, and from everything we’ve seen and heard it’s going to look phenomenal. But while the PS4 may be a week out from sitting in your living room, you can already start to see the new console’s influence right now if you have a Vita!

Sony has released the 3.00 update for the Vita, and with it adds the functionality to support one of the PS4’s biggest features, Remote Play. By installing the update you’ll enable the PS4 Link, and from there you can go ahead and remotely play your games on your Vita directly from the PS4. It works quite similarly to how the Wii U can show games on the screen of the controller.

Besides Remote Play, PS4 Link also will let you use the Second Screen feature which will let you access additional content on the Vita Screen. Unlike Remote Play, however, you don’t have to use the Vita to get Second Screen: it will also be available as an app for iOS and Android devices.

Other features of the 3.00 update include a new Parental Controls app, and will allow parents to set restrictions on what kinds of games can be played on the system and for how long. Sony has also added cross-system chat support for the Vita, so now you’ll be able to chat with PS4 folks while you are using the Vita if you like!
