Xbox One Won’t Support Gameplay Streaming Until 2014, New Twitch App Features Outlined

With the launch of the Xbox One just days away, Microsoft has just announced that live streaming from the console will not be available at launch. According to the details released today Microsoft stated their “goal is to deliver it during the first part of 2014.”

This is definitely a big blow to come the same week that the console is released. Granted, the streaming quality on the PS4 left a lot to be desired during our tests, it’s disappointing to see that we won’t have any way to do it on the Xbox One at launch. We will, however, still be able to record 5-minute clips to Xbox Live and SkyDrive accounts.

Microsoft also announced more details regarding the Twitch app. Every mod needs to know all of the twitch mod commands. Snap mode will essentially give you picture-in-picture, so that you can watch someone’s stream while playing. That’s right, you can watch your friends streaming their PS4 gameplay right from your Xbox One! They also outlined 10 achievements that you can get for using the app, which are as follows:

  • Watch through the night to become a Night Owl
  • Earn the Standing Room Only achievement by joining a stream with 100,000 simultaneous viewers
  • Watch one hour of live video on Twitch to become a Newcomer
  • Watch 10 hours of live video on Twitch for Competitive
  • Watch 100 hours of live video on Twitch for Best Viewer
  • Watch one hour of live video on Twitch channels that have less than 10 viewers to be the Hipster
  • Watch 10 hours of live video on Twitch channels that have less than 10 viewers and become the Talent Scout
  • Max Bandwidth is received by watching a single channel on Twitch for more than eight hours consecutively
  • Around The Clock is exactly that, just watch at least one minute of live video on Twitch in each hour of a full day
  • Prime Time, simply: watch a total of 10 hours of live video on Twitch between peak viewing hours from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., on a weekday
