Heck, they even got a Creation Kit, and a High-Res Texture Pack. Unfortunately console gamers haven’t even seen the patch that came out at the beginning of the month. However, Bethesda has confirmed that it should be dropping tomorrow.

Both Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers should expect to have the patch available for download tomorrow, though the company did express concern that it may not actually hit the PS3 as scheduled. They’ll be sending out another update as soon as they hear from Sony.

The latest patch takes care of a number of issues, including “long term play optimizations for memoy and performance” on the PS3. Hopefully this will take care of the lag issue when save files get too large on the console. Not just any modding tools, but the same ones used by Bethesda to create the game. If you’ve already messed around with the tools for earlier Bethesda titles, then you should feel right at home here. Otherwise, you might check out their official YouTube channel, where they have already uploaded three tutorials on how to use the kit.

Also released was the Skyrim Workshop. Despite only having been up for less than 24 hours, there are already over 300 mods available. Most notable is one that was designed by Valve. This particular mod involves everyone’s favorite personality core, the Space Core. You will be able to watch him crash land, and listen to him babble on and on about the place he loves the most.

Last but not least, we have Bethesda’s super secret surprise. This one is a real treat. They’ve given us a High-Res Texture Pack. This takes their already beautiful game, and makes it look even better. Just be aware that with higher resolution textures comes greater hardware demands. The company recommends “a minimum of 4GB of system RAM, and a DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with at least 1 GB of RAM.”
Source

Gotham City Impostors Has Over 100 Pieces Of DLC

Announcements

DLC

PC Gaming

PS3

Xbox 360

We’ve been keeping our eyes on Gotham City Impostors for a while now. The idea of a game set in Gotham City that doesn’t star The Dark Knight himself seems like a bold move. After all, what’s a Batman-themed game without Batman? Well, the game has finally gone live, along with some DLC.

When I say “some” DLC, I actually mean a shit-ton. If you try and browse the “new” section on your 360, it will be full of Gotham City Impostors stuff. According to the official Xbox Live Marketplace listing, there are currently 105 pieces of downloadable content. Thankfully, it’s all cosmetic, and has no bearing on the game.

What’s really interesting is that while the content costs money, you don’t actually have to pay to unlock it. This can be accomplished simply by playing the game and completing certain tasks. The content on the Marketplace is simply there for those that are too impatient to wait.

Star Wars Kinect Game Bundle Release Date Announced

Announcements

Controllers

Star Wars

Xbox 360

There are a lot of Star Wars fans out there, all in varying degrees. For all of those fans who ever wished they could use the force without a controller in your hands, the time is now. The Star Wars Kinect game will be hitting shelves on April third, alongside some spiffy gear in a limited edition bundle.

There are five modes to explore: Podracing, Rancor Rampage, Duels of Fate, Jedi Destiny: Dark Side Rising, and Galactic Dance Off. You can engage with forces from the Republic, pilot a landspeeder, and dance your pants off all in the same day. It’s about time to put those Jedi skills to the test!

The Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Kinect Star Wars” console bundle is also slated for release on the third and has some promising goodies inside. By that, of course I mean there is an exclusive C-3PO who is unlockable for dance mode. Just be prepared to drop some serious dough, as it will cost you $449.99 for the decked out wireless controller and 320GB console.
Source

Skylanders Giants

3DS

Announcements

PS3

Toys

Trailers

videos

Wii

Xbox 360

Activision made a smart move when they put out Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure last year. It combined both collectible toys and video games, and made you feel important by calling you, “The Portal Master”. There were 32 toys to be collected, and although the starter pack came with three, you needed at least 8 to complete all the missions.

This year’s Toy Fair announced that there would be an expansion for the franchise. Needless to say, you’re going to need to brace your wallets, because 16 new collectible figures are going to be hitting the shelves. Half of these toys will be giants that are two times the size of a regular Skylander.

All of these second wave toys will also lights up when near the Portals of Power, but come connected to a new game. The toys from the first game will still work just fine, but they will be tiny both literally and virtually compared with the Giants. Check out the video below to get a peek of what’s to come.
Source

Get Texts From Mass Effect 3 Characters With The New Datapad App

Announcements

Bioware

iPhone

PC Gaming

PS3

Xbox 360

BioWare has already announced an upcoming iOS game for Mass Effect 3 called Mass Effect: Infiltrator, but this isn’t all that’s coming for fans. Yet another app has been announced by the developer, and this one is a bit different than an actual game.

The new app is called Datapad, and it is more of a social and interactive app. The Datapad app is coming to help fans “stay in touch with all of the info in Mass Effect 3.” Using the app, players can check the status of the ongoing war in the galaxy map, and they will even get test messages from in-game characters.

This is perhaps one of the coolest ideas I’ve seen come for a game, though it’s one many have imagined for a while now. To think that I could get a text from Joker, complaining about the crew on the Normandy? That would be awesome. I’m hoping that they can make some responses to send out if you were to actually reply to their messages too. Now that would be total win.
Source

Calibur 11 Unveils Their New Mass Effect 3 Console Vault

Announcements

PS3

Xbox 360

Calibur 11, the same company that brought us that sweet Gears of War 3 console Vault for the Xbox 360, are back at the work bench again. A few years ago, there was little market for these small-time games, and no one took them seriously. Now, with some of them are becoming more profitable than ones funded by larger, well-known publishers. So what happens when an indie developer sets their sights on publishing a game from a well-known franchise? It’s something that hasn’t happened yet, however, if Notch has his way, it will.

Recently Tim Schafer of Double Fine spoke with Rock Paper Shotgun about his desire to make Psychonauts 2. Unfortunately, despite pitching this sequel to a number of publishers, he’s not found anyone willing to fund the project. Upon hearing this, Mojang’s own Markus ‘Notch’ Persson sent out a simple tweet to Schafer stating “Let’s make Psychonauts 2 happen.”

What’s interesting is that Notch has already expressed the desire to go into publishing before. So why not take a cult hit like Psychonauts and give it the funding it needs? The tides are turning, with more power in the hands of small companies like Mojang. I’d be interesested to see how this pairing with Double Fine plays out, should it actually happen.
Source

Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack

Announcements

PS Vita

Platform games can sometimes lose their appeal, as there are thousands of them that all do the same thing, just with different scenery. A game that was released for PS3 last year called Tales From Space: About a Blob seemed cute and interesting, but just not completely fulfilling somehow. It’s upcoming predecessor named Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack utilizes the fancy equipment inside of the PlayStation Vita to (hopefully) enhance your gaming experience.

The Blob in this game can use telekinesis, which means you can move objects/platforms around. Any item that can be moved in this manner is highlighted with a green dot, and can be touched and dragged about the screen. Rocket mode is another new ability that will let you float through the air using a rocket thruster. For this ability, you will use the back touch pad of the Vita to apply an additional boost for your Blob.

Of course, you’re going to have things from the first game, like magnetic power which lets you stick to or repel from fixed metal surfaces, and push small metal things around. To try and break from just another boring old puzzle-platform game, some tilt-based bonus games have been added in. It looks like it might be worth a try, and will be out “very soon”.
Source

Free Prestige Tokens Given Out To Call Of Duty ELITE Subscribers

Action Games

Announcements

FPS

If you’re one of the people that ponied up the extra $50 for a Call of Duty ELITE subscription, then you probably noticed a little gift in your email this morning. It seems that the company has decided to hand out a free Prestige Token to premium members. The email mentions that it’s for being “among the first”, so it’s likely that this only applies to those with “founder” status.

If you’re not familiar, Prestige Tokens can be used in the Prestige Shop to purchase things like double XP, extra custom classes, weapons, and more. Generally, tokens are acquired each time you prestige in Modern Warfare 3, though you can get some for doing the same in older Call of Duty games.

While this is a small gesture, it’s nice to see that those that paid for a subscription are getting little extras like this. Combined with the free DLC that you get, it makes the purchase seem worthwhile.
