They felt that no matter what you did in the previous games, you were basically given a choice of 3 different options, which were essentially all the same. Well, BioWare, the developer for the game, heard your grumblings and decided that they’re going to release a free bit of DLC to better explain the ending.

In an interview with G4, it was confirmed that the voices for Admiral Hackett and EDI, actor Lance Henriksen and actress Tricia Helfer, are recording more lines for the game. Henriksen had this to say about what he’s doing: “I just did another session with them…They were saying there’s a little bit of a problem with the abruptness of the ending, so we did a whole series of things to add to the end of the game, to live up to the quality they’ve been doing.”

Also included in the list of voice actors making a return is Raphael Sbarge, the voice of Kaidan Alenko. Considering how you have to make a choice concerning Kaidan and Ashley’s fate in the original Mass Effect, it won’t be surprising to see Ashley’s voice actress make an appearance as well. The thing I have to wonder about at this point, though, is that are these characters going be performing the in present, so to speak? Will they be saying stuff that’s going on as you’re playing the game to help better explain the ending? Or will they be used for exposition after the “ending”, giving a recap of what exactly happened after Shepard defeated the Reapers?
Source

Harley Quinn Has Returned, And She’s On A Vendetta

Announcements

DLC

Trailers

Before Harley Quinn took up her mask and guise as the sidekick to the Joker she was an established psychiatrist. Despite that knowledge, she isn’t really managing well with her recent loss. In fact, I’d venture to say it’s no laughing matter. Get it?

Anyway, the teaser trailer for the “Harley Quinn’s Revenge” add-on DLC for Batman: Arkham City shows us a new Harley Quinn. She’s managed to grow even darker, and has become more methodical in her ways. Maybe it was her loss that made her snap? Maybe she thought something like this could never happen to her J-man?

Word is that you’ll spend part of the time playing as Robin through the DLC. You’ll be using your strengths in attempts to rescue Batman from Harley’s new deathly grip. The DLC will release in just two weeks, and you can get it either by downloading it or picking up the Arkham City Game of the Year edition.
Source

Capcom Decides On-Disc DLC Might Not Be Such A Good Idea After All

Announcements

Capcom

DLC

Douche of the Week

PS3

Xbox 360

People were mad when they found out that Street Fighter X Tekken had 12 finished characters on the disc for the game that could only be accessed as paid DLC. They were furious when a spokesperson for the company said that “there is effectively no distinction” between DLC being on the disc and DLC being downloaded from the internet. Now it appears that Capcom is backpedaling as fast as they can, saying that they are “re-evaluating” on-disc DLC.

Now, you might be thinking “Why is on-disc DLC bad? Don’t many games have day one DLC anyway?” Well, it’s true that many games have day one DLC, but it has to come down to the delivery system for it. When Mass Effect 3 came out, it had the “From The Ashes” DLC on day one. EA and Bioware defended the DLC by saying that the content was developed after the game code had been submitted to the ESRB for review. Thus, there was no way for them to put it on the disc unless they re-sent the entire code, which would have probably delayed the game for another few months.

By having on-disc DLC, that code for those characters would have had to have been on the disc when the game was submitted to the ESRB for review. Had the code been added into the game after receiving its rating, the rating that Street Fighter X Tekken would have been void, and the game would have had to be re-reviewed by the ESRB to gain a rating. With this damning evidence, it’s no wonder people were pissed off at Capcom. Here is a blatant example of withholding content and releasing it to earn more money, essentially double-charging the players. However, though the company is “re-evaluating” it’s on-disc DLC policy, don’t expect it to change anytime soon. Senior VP Christian Svensson admitted that titles already in development, like Dragon’s Dogma, are still going to include on-disc DLC, because the decision “was made at the beginning of the game’s development” to include it. Despicable.

Source

Listen To 25 Minutes Of Cave Johnson

DLC

Valve

videos

Portal was one of those surprise gems that really caught everyone by surprise when it debuted. Afterward everyone was talking about cakes and lies. When they set out to make the sequel, Valve had some pretty high expectations to meet. You get a game, play it for a while, and just when it’s starting to get stale, you can download some new content for it and keep on playing it. Companies generally love this concept too, because have DLC available means that they can make more money off of a game long after it’s been released. So, it was surprising to see that Twisted Metal has no DLC, and will not be getting any DLC at all.

Developed by Eat Sleep Play, Twisted Metal has bucked the trend that many games have followed recently. The developer has decided to shun DLC, now and in the future, and right now their only concern is developing a “happy balance” rate on the game. Once they get that “happy balance”, the team that developed Twisted Metal is done with game, except for the occasional double XP weekend.

This tells me one of two things: either the developers just wanted to publish a full, complete product, without resorting to DLC to artificially keep peoples interest high in the game, or what has happened is that Eat Sleep Play is just tired of working on the game in general, and just wanted to get it out of the door and start on the next big thing. Considering how co-director David Jaffe split from Eat Sleep Play earlier this year to work on his new projects and his commitment to Twisted Metal “officially” ends this month, I’m guessing it’s the latter.
Source

EA And Nexon Discusses FIFA, Not Buyout [Rumor]

DLC

EA

Free To Play

Industry News

Rumor

If you were one of the people who were looking forward to EA being bought out by another company, I’m afraid I have some sad news. Nexon, a Tokyo-based company that helped pioneer the free-to-play computer game movement, is not in talks with EA to buy them out. Instead, it turns out the talk are a bit more mundane, as a person with knowledge on the matter told Bloomberg.com.

EA is looking to use Nexon’s servers and developers for the game in Asia. They want to use Nexon’s expertise in getting people to buy downloadable content and use it to get people to spend their money on things like team jerseys and player experience points. In other words, EA is looking for Nexon to be the distributor of FIFA in Asia.

This makes quite a bit more sense than a merger. Nexon deals more in the free gaming industry, where a person can play a game for free, but if they want to get more enjoyment out of the game, they can purchase different virtual add-ons to customize their character. If they bought EA, I would see that there would be a clash of cultures and philosophies, and it would be a rocky marriage from the start. If you’re one of those people who were wishing to see EA bought out by another company, however, I’m afraid you’ll have to keep waiting.
Source

Skyrim: Dawnguard Announced By Bethesda

Announcements

Bethesda

DLC

Xbox 360

As we imagined, there is DLC in the works for Skyrim. Now, most people might just turn to the web, sifting through tons of so-called “true” rumors about what some new DLC might contain. If you’re like Karellan, from the BethSoft forums, however, you might actually try your hand at deciphering code in game to see what’s there.

Using a utility called strings.exe, Karellan found out some interesting things about what the next DLC may contain. Many of the files he found had a prefix stating DLC01. This seems to show that Bethesda is starting to upload a few of the DLC files into the game ahead of time. The file names themselves tell the full story about what’s in store. It looks like the DLC is going to contain snow elves, including the snow elf prince. Also included in the DLC are changes to the animation of how vampires feed, and crossbows, which have not made it into the game as of yet. Lastly, there seems to be a set of files that are all prefixed with RF, and the files all seem to be conversation files. It has been guessed by some people that it’s for a new follower, but there’s no way to be sure.

It’ll be interesting to see more of the history of the snow elves in the game, and what happened to them. In game lore, snow elves were driven out by the Nords, who then proceeded to seek refuge with the dwemer. However, the dwemer betrayed them, and the snow elves were enslaved. After the dwemer died out, the snow elves were twisted, and were left as blind, shattered husks called of the great people they once were. They became the falmer. Will this new DLC contain their revenge and their return to glory?
Source

Portal 2 Puzzle Creation DLC Arrives In May

Announcements

DLC

PC Gaming

Valve

Have you ever wanted to create and design clever puzzles? Actually, it is the perfect ad, and it’s being put to use right now.
