Konami announced that the PS Vita version of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be made available on June 12th. The games included in the collection are Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Konami plans on utilizing the Vita’s controls to their utmost potential, as the game “allows fans to experience the series like never before with optimized controls that take full advantage of the Vita’s unique touch-screen and rear touchpad.” You’ll be able to use the touchscreens to zoom in and out of the game, peek around corners, cycle through weapons, interrogate enemies, and apparently perform rapid attacks with the knife. I’m not sure how the knife combat will work exactly, but I have a feeling it’s going to be gruesome.

What’s probably most interesting is how this game will make use of what Konami is called “Transfarring”. What Transfarring will allow you to do is synchronize the save state of the game with that of the PS3 version of the game. Here’s an example of how it will work: Imagine you’re playing your PS3 copy of the Collection when your mom starts yelling at you to “Get in the car, we’re going to your grandmothers house!” You use the Transfarring feature and put your save state onto your Vita copy of the game, and while you’re grandmother is telling you boring stories of how she met Vic Damone in 1956, you’ll be too busy saving the world to even notice. Of course, the downside to Transfarring? You need to have purchased copies of both the PS3 and PS Vita versions of the game. Still though, pretty cool!
Source

Dragon Ball Z Kinect Game For Xbox 360?

Konami

Motion Gaming

Xbox 360

Every day we are coming closer and closer to a realistic virtual reality, but for now, we’ll just have to make do with some pretending. If you are a fan of Dragon Ball Z, chances are you have been wanting to release a Kamehameha on your foes for some time now. Seeing as most, if not all of us aren’t saiyans, pulling this off on your own is a pretty difficult feat.

This is why Namco Bandai might just be working on a Dragon Ball Z game that will use the Microsoft Kinect sensor. The tip-off about this possible release comes from Siliconera, as they spotted Dragon Ball Z Kinect on Korea’s Game Rating Board. I foresee many of us practicing our five minutes long battle screams in the coming months.

While I do think this game is going to be a blast, I do have some concerns. One is whether or not I’ll be getting noise complaints from having to yell at my TV. The other, and possibly the most important, is what may happen if 2-player mode uses the Fusion Dance, and we actually time it perfectly. This game needs to come out so we can know for sure though.
Source

Metal Gear Online Retires This Summer

Announcements

Konami

PS3

Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer addition for Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PS3, will be going offline when summer hits this year. MGO was the multiplayer portion of the game, where players could compete against each other in tactical action across the net. It wasn’t extremely popular, but it did have a dedicated fan base.

The online shop for the service will end on March 21st. When April rolls around, no more characters can be made. Finally by June 21st the entire service will shut down for good. No more crawling around online in boxes trying to fool other players.

While I can somewhat understand the cease of operations for MGO, it makes me wonder what Konami is aiming toward with the future. With Metal Gear Solid: Rising coming soon, so far we’ve not heard of anything else arriving to further the storyline any longer. Either way, whether it was for financial reasons or just plain ending the service, we’ll be sad to see MGO go. Play while you can soldiers.
Source

Kojima Talks Metal Gear Solid, And The Possibility Of A Remake

Announcements

Konami

PS Vita

PS2

PS3

Xbox 360

One of the first games I fell deep into back in my PlayStation days was Metal Gear Solid. I hadn’t played the Metal Gear title for the SNES, but I still found myself being sucked into the game’s immersing storyline. The game originally debuted back in 1998, and it kept me on my toes for quite a long time. There were just so many different twists and ways to go about objectives, which made it a truly engaging game. This is why it’s no surprise that gamers who have gotten to play the game all scream for a remake.

Hideo Kojima, the game’s creator, finally took some time to elaborate on his feelings toward creating a remake of this iconic title. When speaking to the Official Playstation Magazine, this is what he had to say about remembering the game that started his PlayStation career:

“It was a very pure experience. I was just making the game I wanted to make. Looking back, there’s not anything in particular I want to go back and fix. If you change anything, you change the game – and I want to avoid that. If you bring the gameplay up to modern standards, then you lose a bit of the original game. It was a game made for a certain era – not just the story, but the controls and everything about it reflect that era in which the game was made.

There are a lot of people wanting remakes of the original, and as producer I want to answer those calls. But as a creator I’m not very interested in going back. If we were to do it, it would have to be a total remake – the only thing that would be the same would be the story. If it happened at some point I would stay as a producer, but would have to hand off most of the actual creating.”

If you remember, Kojima had an interview a while back with the magazine where he spoke about the coming of a Metal Gear Solid 5. He made mention then that he wouldn’t have a large role in the game like with the first, and here he details that a bit more. While I am fond of an HD remake of the original Metal Gear Solid, I am really attached to the game in its old ways. I mean, a newer version would certainly look cool, but I don’t think it would be the same.
Source

Hideo Kojima Explains The Metal Gear Rising Development Process

Konami

PS3

videos

In a new video entitled “The Truth Behind RISING,” Hideo Kojima helps explain the full story behind the development of Metal Gear Rising. The game was officially canceled in late 2010, but before the cancellation decision was made Kojima considered bringing in some Western developers. If you’ve been keeping tabs on the game you’ll know that Platinum has now taken the role as lead developer. Kojima likes the idea, especially since Rising is a ninja game.

The documentary was put together for the sole purpose of helping players understand why the decisions were made that the company went with. The whole video is 25 minutes long, so it would be best to make sure you can set aside some time to watch it. For fans of the Metal Gear series, this is not something you’ll want to skip out on.

I’m not a big fan of Rising’s changed storyline, but I’m willing to give it a shot. It looks like Platinum is as excited to work on it as Kojima is to have them, which shows some promise. Check out the documentary below to see what both Konami and Platinum are both bringing to the table with this new Metal Gear game.
Source

Metal Gear Solid: Rising Gets Revised Storyline, Now After Metal Gear Solid 4

Announcements

Konami

PS3

Xbox 360

If you’ve been following the Metal Gear Solid series, then you’ll have known about the latest title from Konami was called Metal Gear Solid: Rising. It starred the robotic ninja, Raiden, and was supposed to be set in between the events of MGS2 and MGS4. We haven’t heard much about the game until lately, but the news surfacing about the title now has a lot of things changing, and not certainly for the good.

Platinum, the developer behind Vanquish and Bayonetta, are heading up this new title. The news from them is that the game has not only gotten a new title, but a completely revised storyline. Now instead of taking place between games it will now take place after the events of MGS4. According to Konami, this was changed to “show off that they can bring to the series.” In the new title, which has now being called “Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance,” Raiden has taken up sides with private military companies to pick up various jobs. These jobs include “VIP protection, military training and other duties.” Basically, Raiden has turned into a rent-a-cop.

You can pick this and more information up on the game’s official site. There’s still a lot to reveal about the game, and Konami needs to get on the wheels to get them turning. There’s a video interview coming on December 13th called “The Truth Behind RISING,” which will explain more about the title and collaboration between the companies. The new changes are sure to upset some diehard Metal Gear Solid fans, but we’ll just need to wait and see what the interview has for us.
Source

NeverDead Releasing and Rolling Heads This Coming January

Announcements

Konami

PS3

Xbox 360

What would you do if you were immortal? If you’ve ever played the Silent Hill series, then you know that the world created by the game is no walk through Wonderland. The new trailer for the upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour is no exception.

The first thing we notice when seeing the trailer is how good the game looks. The graphics have been cranked up passed eleven, and it’s very well polished, even if only in CG format. With great-looking graphics in the Silent Hill realm comes horrifying enemies. We see dilapidated houses, creepy parks, and eerie towns which players will soon explore, all while trying to stay alive. The best part about the trailer, though? It’s set to a sweet song from the band Korn.

This specific trailer comes to us straight from the Tokyo Game Show, and you don’t want to miss it. Konami announced at their pre-E3 event that the game will not make it to the show floor.

Hideo Kojima stated that the game is still slated for its 2012 release, but didn’t give any specific reason as to why the game won’t be shown. The only thing we can think of is that the game still needs some polishing, or Kojima is hiding something up his sleeve.

This news bums me out a bit, mostly because I am a huge Metal Gear fan. But if you know anything about Hideo Kojima, then you can expect the man to keep some secrets. He likes to announce things with a bang, so when we do get to see more of Rising, I am sure it will be well worth the wait.
Source

Hideo Kojima Reveals ‘Fox Engine’

Announcements

Konami

Hideo Kojima, the mastermind of Konami, revealed new technology at the company’s pre-E3 conference that he calls the “Fox Engine.” The technology is a next-generation gaming engine that is multi-platform, and it will power a brand new project that Kojima is handling himself. The demonstration showed a young boy running through a jungle resembling much that of what’s seen in Metal Gear Solid 3. There was a huge jump in detail and effects compared to what we’ve seen before with the company, which really impressed us.

The new title that Kojima is working on will be built using the Fox Engine. It will be able to run across the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 with no compatibility issues. No other information has been given as to what title is being worked on, but we know it will include Transfarring (enabling PS3 to PSP/NGP file sharing). It is also meant to keep the development time down for all new titles from Konami, and we can all dig that.
Source
