He’s taken the melody of Lavender Town from Pokemon and remixed it into quite the haunting metal tune. He’s laid the eerie high-pitch tune from Lavender Town on top of some metal riffs and beats, creating a song that truly does the game a great service.

I remember my days in Lavender Town. I’d constantly wander back and forth on the outskirts of town purposely avoiding the tower. I knew that my only solace was to complete the trial in the tower to move forward on my quests, but there was something creepy about that town, and the people in it. It was almost like the citizens were under some sort of spell. Everyone was dreary and out of place. Not to mention my pokemon got super spooked whenever I’d summon one. And those ghosts… All those ghosts…

Anyway, Psycho Crusher has made one sick cover, and he’s created a video showing off some crazy artwork to go along with the song. I’ve been listening to it nonstop since I found it. The song reminds me of that whack ROM hack for Pokemon where a ghost gets inserted into your party and things take a turn for the worst. I don’t know if this will put that Marowak spirit to rest in Lavender Town, but I’ll sure raise the horns to it. Check out the video and rock out with us.
Source

Indie All-Stars Bundle Has Gaming Roots

Indie Games

Music

Off-Topic

We’ve seen a lot of indie bundles over the last year or two. Usually this means a group of semi-popular indie games packaged together at a price that you determine. If you pay more than the average person, that generally means you get a few more games kicked in as a token of gratitude. Well now it seems that the idea has caught on in the music world.

Now I’m not one to push music on people, and certainly not from this outlet. However, the contents of the Indie All-Stars Bundle have more ties to the gaming world than just their business model. For instance, you’ll find PPPPPP, otherwise known as the soundtrack for VVVVVV. You’ll also get Yours as Fast as Mine, from The Main Drag. The drummer for this band, John Drake works for Harmonix, which you know as the team behind Rock Band. A majority of the other albums contain music that can also be found in the Rock Band store.

If you want to support independent music, and help these guys keep making tunes for games, then I suggest downloading the Indie All-Stars Bundle. You get 10 albums for whatever you’re willing to pay, and if you pay more than the average (currently around $7.50), you’ll get 5 more albums for free.
Source

WiiPop Is A Dancing Game For Those Poppers Everywhere

Indie Games

Kinect Mods

Motion Gaming

Music

videos

Wii

There are many impressive types of music genres in the world. Equally fascinating is the number of styles of dance that go along with that. One of the most strange and awesome dance styles to watch is popping. Every movement is articulated, and it takes a lot of practice to make it look good.

Most of the populace can enjoy games like Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) or Para Para, but those who like to pop, things are a little grim. It’s very difficult to pick up such acute movements. Poppers rejoice, because a game called WiiPop is in the works, and it is exactly what you think it is.

The prototype was built out of body-mounted Wiimotes and a Kinect camera. This is going to be an open source project from the looks of things, which is great news for the development of games in this particular genre. This game hopes to “push the level of physical detection and algorithmically categorization.” So if looks to be an item of interest to you, you may want to go here to check out their site.
Source

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for 3DS

3DS

Announcements

Music

Square Enix looks as though they want to make as much money off of the Final Fantasy titles as humanly possible. But if the music sounds great in the game, then surely it must sound even better when played by a live orchestra, right?

If you live near Boston, you can find out for yourself on March 10th. That’s the date for the Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY concert. Distant Worlds performs music from most of the different Final Fantasy games, and occasionally changes things up from time to time. Masashi Hamauzu, who composed the music for Final Fantasy XIII, will be a special guest at the concert, which tells me that this concert might have a FF XIII flavor to it.

Tickets range from $43.50 to $126.00. It is being performed in the Boston Symphony Hall on March 10th at 8 PM. Tickets will surely be sold out soon, so get them now while you can!
Source

Forgot Valentine’s Day? Occasionally, there are games that offer all three in one package. It’s looking like Journey, which will be coming out this coming Spring, will be one such master piece.

The game is set in a desert-looking world we know nothing about, and is looks absolutely fantastical. There are no real instructions, other than the knowledge that you need to get to the mountain in the distance. The interactions you have with other characters are not vocalized other than tones and actions, which makes the use of sound so much more important.

The video below gives you a sample of the music that you will be spending time with during the game. Having music with a lot of emotion might crop up once or twice in any game you play. This is merely used to get some specific reaction from the player, but in this case, music seems to be both a sort of companion and guide in the vast, endless world. It is beautiful, and will likely completely immerse you into the story. If you want to see some game play, you can go here to catch the first 20 minutes.
Source

A Live Performance Of ‘Build That Wall’ From The Bastion Musicians

Music

PC Gaming

videos

XBLA

Xbox 360

Bastion is a great game, sure. On top of that, we also love adorable songs that get stuck in our heads for months. All I need say is Badgers, Kenya, and Magical Trevor, and I have ruined you for at least the next two hours.

The same makers of these video extravaganzas have created Russian Dancing Men. You get to travel through various worlds that go with songs that speak of amazing horses, crabs, and narwhals. There are only four buttons to control your dancing comrade, with conveniently only four different obstacles to face. You have a loops, pits, hurdles, and spikes to avoid, but at least you do it to the beat of some snazzy music.

It is a rhythm game, so you should try to have some knowledge of the songs beforehand, as they have some tempo changes in the middle of the songs. That will make things pretty difficult if you aren’t expecting it. I was sold on the fact that there’s a new song in the game, but it looks like a fun way to pass time on the bus. While you thought that those sort of statements were complete rubbish, you knew somewhere deep inside that they were right.

Similarly to those statements heard in your childhood, Closure is a game that took that to heart. Ok, they took it a little too far, but that adds to the fun of it! This game is one set in an almost nightmarish world of scribbly-looking black and white. The point of the game is to stay in or on things that are illuminated by a orb that your character carries. It’s a pretty suspenseful game, seeing as there are moving bits and bobs that you have to react very quickly to. Unless of course, you’d rather fall into the great abyss of darkness underneath you.

Tyler Glaiel and Jon Schubbe spent three years making this magical world happen, and they put some amazing music in to accompany this game. There is an older flash version they have done that you can play here, but this newer, updated version is going to blow the old one out of the water as they stated in their FAQ: “The difference between the flash version and this one is the difference between the original Mario Bros. arcade game and Super Mario World for the SNES.” It’s got about six to eight hours of game play with about 100 levels for you to figure out. Who’s ready for suspense and quick thinking?
Source
