Activision Releases Guitar Hero Drum Tuning Kit

Remember yesterday when we told you that Activision was going to release a tool that allows you to tune your drums? While I’m still trying to get over just how amusing that sounds, Activision has indeed come though on their promise. They have released the tool, and as we hoped, it is a software fix, not hardware.
The software is simple enough, just install the software, (obtained here) plug in your drum kit, adjust the sensitivity on each individual pad, and you’re all set. There’s just one minor issue. The software is for Windows-based machines only. Hopefully they will release a Mac version of the software as well, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades Set List Revealed

Earlier this year, Activision took Guitar Hero on the road with Guitar Hero: On Tour. The DS-verision of their popular game sold like hotcakes, and thus, a sequel was needed. Thus, Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades was born. The game will be hitting stores on November 16th with 28 songs that span over 40 years. Just which songs are included? Hit the jump to find out.
Netflix To Stream HD Movies To Xbox 360 Owners Next Month

When the New Xbox Experience launches next month, 360 owners will have the opportunity to stream Netflix movies to their console. This is something we’ve known for some time, and is honestly one of the things I look forward to the most regarding the dashboard update. However, it seems that they’ve been holding out on us.
Not only are we going to be able to stream Netflix movies on our Xbox 360’s, but we’re going to be able to do it in HD. When the NXE goes live on November 19th, Netflix will also be launching their HD streaming service, which will work with the 360. According to sources, there will be over 300 movies available in full HD when the service launches. If you don’t have a Netflix account already, I’d highly suggest signing up and taking advantage of this.
The Gene Simmons Axe Guitar

After rocking out with the same old plastic guitar, one of two things ends of up happening. You either get so comfortable with it that you can’t handle playing any other plastic guitar or you get bored of it. If you’re looking for something a little more interesting, this guitar will likely ease your plastic guitar restlessness. It will also likely turn your friends green with envy, even if they aren’t KISS fans. It will work for either Guitar Hero or Rock Band. It is a little pricey though, you can pick it up for $80 on Amazon. It will be released on Halloween, so just a little late to add it to your Gene Simmons costume.

Blizzard Reports Over 11 Million Active WoW Subscribers

Yesterday we informed you that Blizzard was opening up several servers for free character transfers. If it weren’t already blatantly obvious, they had to do this because the game is still attracting thousands of new gamers all the time. In fact, the company has just announced that they now have over 11 million active users in World of Warcraft.
While it has taken them nearly nine months to jump from 10 to 11 million subscribers, I doubt it will take quite so long to hit 12. First, we’ve got a new expansion hitting stores next month, which will likely attract new players, as well as entice those who’ve kicked the habit to once again lose themselves in the world of Azeroth. Then of course you have the holiday season which is fast approaching. With those two elements working together, I’d be surprised if we didn’t hear another announcement before spring.
60GB HDD Live Starter Pack To Be Available Soon

If you’re looking to add a hard drive to that Core or Arcade Xbox 360, then it seems as though you might have another option in the near future. According to a leaked ad from Circuit City, you’ll be able to pick up a 60GB HDD Live starter pack starting next week. The pack is said to include a 60GB hard drive, 3 month Live membership, headset and ethernet cable. $100 is a bit steep for that size drive, but then again they used to sell the smaller 20GB drives for around the same price.
Activision To Release “Drum Tuning Kit” For Faulty Guitar Hero: World Tour Drums

It seems that a large number of people are having issues with their new Guitar Hero: World Tour drum kits. The main issue is that the pads are either too sensitive, or not sensitive enough. This of course leads to notes registering when you didn’t hit the pad, or having to strike them really hard. Don’t worry though, we’ve got an official statement from Activision on the matter.
“We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues. We believe that these controllers are limited to ones in the earlier manufacturing stages. While we believe that this was an isolated manufacturing issue, we are stepping our efforts to randomly test our drum kit controllers so customers can be assured they work properly. In the event any consumers do experience problems with their drum kit controllers associated with sensitivity issues, Activision will soon be offering a drum tuning kit that will enable players to fully optimize their drums.”
A Tale Of Two Covers

Look carefully at the two images above. Now if you ignored the slightly different titles, one might be inclined to believe that these were simply two versions of the same cover. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
The cover on the left was released by THQ back in June, while the other is a more recent piece of art for a new game released by Activision. Now I’m no lawyer, but I have been known to do a bit of artwork. I fully understand that if you take a picture, and then draw it in almost the exact same way, with only a few slight changes in color and positioning, it is going to be considered copying. That is exactly what the art team behind Activision’s cover has done here. Considering that THQ’s cover has been publicly available since June, it’s hard to believe that they weren’t staring at it while making their version.
THQ is now taking Activision to court over the matter, as they have spent over $1 million in marketing for their title, which can now be easily confused with Activision’s work. They even claim to have contacted Activision early this month when they discovered the new cover, which was nearly identical to their own. Unfortunately Activision refused to change their art.
Get Your Own Zombie Pinup Girl Calendar

Every now and then I run across something that really has nothing to do with gaming, yet I feel the need to post about it. Take this My Zombie Pinup calendar for instance. Granted, there are a lot of games which feature zombies, so that makes it worth writing about, right? Okay, it has nothing to do with gaming, but seriously, it’s a calendar full of hot zombie chicks. It’s almost Halloween, so while you’re still in the festive spirit, pick up one of these for just $20.
WoW Opens Up 22 Servers For Free Character Transfers

If you’re fed up with how packed your server is, now is the time to make the change. Blizzard has opened up 22 of the US servers for free character transfers. I have yet to switch, because I have real life friends on my server, but I may attempt to get them to transfer with me. After all, if you’re going to do it now is the time. With things as they are now, it’s going to be a nightmare trying to get anything done right after WotLK comes out. Moving to a much quieter server might be a nice change of pace.
