No Price Cuts For The PS3 This Year

Since the Xbox 360 price cut came down the line a little while back, everyone has been wondering if Sony would end up cutting the prices for their PS3 in time for the holiday season. The announcement of the new 160GB bundle pretty much smashed any hopes of such a price cut, but Sony has gone ahead and made it official. SCEA has officially announced that they will not be changing their prices this holiday season.

Honestly, I think that this move will be disappointing for the console maker. Nintendo is still sitting large with the Wii, and can’t even keep units on the shelves, so there’s no worry about sales there. Since Microsoft slashed the prices on the 360, those too have been flying off the shelves. With two consoles in the sub-$300 range (and the 360 Arcade coming in under $200), it’s going to be hard to convince Grandma to go with the $400 gift. Then of course you have to factor in the sad state that our economy is in, and it doesn’t look like a good year for the PS3, regardless of what titles they have to offer.
