PS3 Reportedly Jailbroken, Can Play Ripped Games Without A Disc

Games are expensive, with new titles usually running around $60. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just borrow a copy from a friend (or rent one) and make a playble backup on your hard drive? Well apparently that’s now possible on the PS3, with the right hardware.

According to the video below, this new hardware/software hack for the PS3 allows you to backup any PS3 title to the console and play it without the disc. It uses a USB dongle and some sort of special software to achieve the desired goal. If you can get a hold of the kit, it will set you back $150.

If you’re contemplating purchasing this modchip, just keep a few things in mind. First, modding your console can potentially do very bad things to it. No one wants to be forced into buying a brand new PS3 just because you were trying to get some free games. Also, there is still the possibility that the device is a scam, and you’ve thrown $150 out the window. Finally, remember that people worked hard on the games you love. If you do pirate them because you’re broke, at least try to buy a retail copy when you do have the cash.
