A Walkthrough Of Bioshock Infinite’s Skyline Combat

During the ten minute gameplay demo of Bioshock Infinite we see the main character, Booker DeWitt, jump and fly with ease on what is known as the Sky-line – the railways connecting Bioshock Infinite’s floating city, Columbia. During his speedy ascent along the Sky-line we see DeWitt fight for his life, whip-smacking an enemy off the opposite side of the same railway. Of course it looks super cool, but some of us still want to know how exactly the Sky-line combat in Bioshock Infinite works. Luckily, Creative Director Ken Levine fills us in on what we want to know.

“Imagine being on a roller coaster, over another roller coaster. Imagine being able to jump freely from one roller coaster to the next. Then imagine people are shooting at you. And you are shooting at them. That’s the experience of being on the Sky-Lines.

You might choose to take on enemies at extremely long range while traveling on the Sky-lines, or you might engage in close combat. You might do both in quick succession. You can jump between criss-crossing Sky-line routes, allowing you to instantly change direction and evade or outflank enemies. Sky-lines are there to expand your tactical options, not dictate them.”

When you see all of this visually, you can really understand how it all works out, though this may sound complicated. We are still well away from the release of Bioshock Infinite, so the words of Levine are what we have to hold on to for now. All we can do is wait.
