IU LanWar XIX

If you’re located in Indiana and are a PC gamer,  you should listen up. Next month the IU Gaming Club is putting on their semiannual LanWar. That means it’s time to load up your gaming rig, grab some snacks and head to IU for 24 hours of kick-ass gaming.

Never been to a LanWar before? Just a casual gamer? Don’t worry, these guys encourage people of all skill levels to attend. Yes, there will be tournaments, but you don’t have to participate if you don’t feel that you’re up to snuff. If you’re just wanting to hang out with a bunch of like-minded gamers for 24 hours, it will be worth it.

Now if you’re a competitive gamer, there will be a few tournaments going on. Currently on the agenda are StarCraft II, Team Fortress 2 (sponsored by Valve), and Shattered Horizon (sponsored by Futuremark). There will be one other tournament that has not been announced yet. Keep an eye on the IU Gaming Club website for more info on that.

So what else can you expect at the LanWar? Prizes. Lots of prizes. We can’t give out any of the details, but there are well over a dozen companies sponsoring the event, so there will be plenty of exciting swag to get your hands on. If you’re worried that you’ll be left out of the prize pool for not entering tournaments, don’t worry, there are plenty to be won simply by attending the event.

But what if you’re not an IU student? Fear not, the event is open to the general public. Whether you’re a student at another university (yes, that includes Purdue) or just a random person who lives in the area, you are all welcome to show up. All you need to do is register for $15 (the price will go up to $20 if you register after November 2nd) and show up. There are a limited number of seats, so if you’re planning on attending, you’ll want to register early.

Finally, what do you need to bring? Here’s a rundown of what you should (and should not) bring with you:

To Bring:

  • Computer (Laptops are definitely fine, too!)
  • Monitor
  • Accessories (Keyboard, Mouse, Mousepad, Headset, etc)
