I don’t normally write something like this, but after listening to the TRON: Legacy soundtrack I couldn’t pass this opportunity by. I have always loved Daft Punk since I heard their song called “One More Time”. Actually, Daft Punk is the band responsible for my liking techno music in general. When I found out that they were going to write the entire score for the new movie, TRON: Legacy, I was amazed. I then heard that they were writing the score for the accompanying game as well and my mind was blown. I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of the soundtrack to the movie, and I have to say that it is one of the most amazing pieces of musical art that I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Honestly, it’s a masterpiece.
Daft Punk is comprised of two French gentlemen who share a love for techno music. The two formed the band after parting ways with a rock band they both belonged to. Being a gamer, nerd, and other dorky what-have-yous, I immediately jumped at the thought of them interacting with the new TRON movie. TRON is one of those “cult” movies, where it has a generalized following of people who are just all about it. I have seen the original movie, and despite seeing the new movie yet, I have to say that the soundtrack does it justice.
With the new soundtrack, Daft Punk is backed by a full 85-piece orchestra. There is a perfect mixture of original Daft Punk electronica, and orchestral melodies that really paint a vivid image of an emotional TRON world in your mind. The entire soundtrack was recorded at AIR Lyndhurst Studios in London. Daft Punk collaborated with an LA-based composer, Joseph Trapanese, for two full years to finalize the score for the movie. The time that the group decided to take was well worth it, because the soundtrack came out as a true work of art.
If you haven’t had the chance to pick up a copy of the TRON: Legacy soundtrack, please do so. If you’re a fan of Daft Punk then you have even more of a reason to get your hands on it. The soundtrack has a perfect mixture of breathtaking orchestral pieces, heart-pounding techno beats, and dramatic sequencing to make it a must-have for anyone who appreciates music. Daft Punk is a band comprised of two geniuses, and this soundtrack proves it.
I simply cannot wait to see the movie, and get a copy of the game. You shouldn’t either.
