The stereo-type the WoW nerds stay locked in their homes and never see any action of the real world has been argued at the University of Michigan recently. Two students, an anonymous Junior and an anonymous Sophomore, were shocked to find themselves being interrogated by the FBI about a Gold Farming Fraud on World of Warcraft.
According to records, all that was seized from these two bewildered college students were “laptop computers, hard drives, video game systems, credit cards, a cell phone, paperwork and other computer equipment.” Despite all that was taken from them, the youngest of the two stated, “They thought we were involved in some kind of fraud. I’m pretty sure they have the wrong people, but they took all my stuff.”
The story goes on that the FBI is looking for people who are using Gold Farming in order to sell them for actual money. There are also rumors of it being tied to terrorists.
And our parents told us video games are bad influences on us…
