Anonymous Issues Press Statement About PSN Hack

The online hacker collective, better known as Anonymous, has issued an official statement in response to the accusations made against them dealing with the latest PlayStation Network hack. Entitled “Sony, I Am Disappoint,” the statement addresses the recent accusations and comments made by a journalist towards the collective.

Sony announced earlier this month that during an internal investigation they stumbled upon a file named “Anonymous” that included the words “We Are Legion,” which is a call sign for Anonymous. In the press statement, Anonymous claims that work by journalist Joseph Menn is being used as proof of guilt to point the finger at the collective, and they see the work as a “poor piece of journalism.” Anonymous states that Menn conjured up an explanation on how the collective was formed, and began selling pieces of this information to the F.B.I.

According to Anonymous, however, the information provided by Menn is false. They go on to explain in the press statement how the collection was formed, and from where it came. The statement points out several false claims and sources used within the accusations against them, and even explains how Sony violated PCI credit card standards by having an “unpatched network.”

Towards the end of the statement Anonymous even touches on the “threat” of more attacks on Sony’s network. They explain that other internet hacker groups are “outraged by the blatant coverup and shameful misdeeds” of Sony, and there will apparently be more attacks. They state that Sony “will have to learn the hard way that corporate malfeasance will not go unpunished.” This could, and most likely means trouble.
