Tuesday’s Tech Tips Of The Week: Headsets Vs. Surround Sound Systems.

These days you can drop just about the same amount of money on a good headset as you can a decent surround sound system. This week we are going to give you the pros and cons of each,  and let you make your own decision.

Headsets:

So what makes a headset worth the pretty penny you spend on it? With how fancy they tend to look, it can be hard to decide what is crap, and what is quality. I tend to stick with three brands, Thermaltake, Turtle Beach, and Triton. But those are not the only brands worth buying, just my favorites. What you generally want to look for in a good headset is long term comfort, well equalized sound, and a long cord.

So now let’s check out the pros and cons of headsets.

Pros:

  • Less interference from ambient noise.
  • Allows for loud use without disturbing others.
  • Your microphone can be built in.
  • Better for smaller rooms.

Cons:

  • Less interference from ambient noise. (I put this on both Pros and Cons because not being able to hear outside noise is a pro and a con.)
  • Not always comfortable for long periods.
  • Cords can be restricting.
  • Good for only 1 person.

Surround sound:

Every home theater is said to not be complete without a surround system of some sort. Does the same go for gaming?

Pros:

  • Option of heavy bass.
  • Good for multiple people.
  • Can add a deeper sound (if the system is set up correctly)

Cons:

  • Can be unattractive and bulky
  • Complicated setup
  • Complicated use.

So there you have it! a short but informative list, so you can make your own educated decision. swing by next week for the next Tuesday Tech Tips of the Week.
