It’s getting somewhat close to being a whole month since the PlayStation Network was shut down due to the intrusion that Sony incurred to their system. According to a report from Edge, that downtime has had a staggering effect on UK video game retailers.
The report states that many retailers claim to have seen a huge jump in the amount of PS3 trade-ins since the outage began. They even go on to mention that trade-ins have doubled. Of course, this can be expected when issues like the one with the network are experienced. If the network goes down, which is one of the main reasons why users have the system, the system then becomes an expensive paperweight, correct?
On top of that, the report states that shops are saying that the major slice of the people who are trading in their systems is that of competitive FPS players. This means that gamers who frequent Call of Duty: Black Ops, Modern Warfare 2, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are the ones who have gotten rid of their systems the most. I assume that these players consequently purchased an Xbox 360 and got their FPS on with the new console, but trading in your console for another just to play a certain game seems like a pretty drastic thing to do. But who am I to judge the love of a game and its gamer? To our UK readers, can you say that this is truth?
