COD: Modern Warfare 3: The Lowdown [E3 2011]

Modern warfare looks to be one of the biggest, If not the biggest game of 2011. Modern Warfare 2 sold 7 million copies on day one, and I can only imagine the figures that will come of MW3. It’s going to be a huge title this year, and we’ve got some details about the game that everyone should see.

The gameplay trailer debuted yesterday with an impressive look into the story and beautiful display of its in-game graphics, and with that said, here’s a closer look at the story behind the game’s great-looking gameplay.

Its reported that the game opens just minutes after MW2’s cliff hanger of an ending. The game is going to have 15 levels starting with a mission in New York and ending with something in Dubai. In Call of Duty fashion, you will bounce around the world playing dispensable characters, as well as some reccurring ones from previous Modern Warfare games.

Multiplayer is getting some new perks and killstreaks as well. (but keep in mind things can always change before the game releases.)

Perks:

  • Blind Eye: This makes you immune to computer-controlled and player-controlled killstreaks. The pro version makes your launchers lock on faster and gives you extra bullet damage to vehicles.
  • Assassin: This makes you immune to UAV, thermal, and heartbeat sensors. The pro version also makes you immune to CUAV, EMP and no longer shows your name in red or the cross hair in red when you’re targeted Point Guard: Every two assists count as a kill towards your killstreak.
  • Dead Silence: You make no noise
  • Recon: Gives you a special kind of radar to spot enemies, most likely. We’re not sure on this one.

Killstreaks:

  • EMP Grenade: Temporarily takes out all area electronics.
  • Little bird: A small-manned helicopter that can be controlled and used to gun down enemies. [Updated]
  • Precision Airstrike: Calls in an airstrike on a targeted area.
  • Stealth bomber: Calls in a B2 Spirit to carpet bomb along a line designated by the player.
  • Remote Turret: A remote controlled turret.
  • Directional UAV: A UAV that can be directed into areas to scan for enemies.
  • Remote Mortar: Direct a mortar team using a zoom-able camera view of the map to call in strikes.
  • Airdrop Trap: A booby-trapped airdrop.
  • Ammo Resupply: An ammo reloading airdrop.
  • Escort Airdrop: A protected airdrop.
  • Specialist Strike Package: This one we still are unsure of.

One last note that I want to mention is the inclusion of Call of Duty: Elite. The Elite system offers more multiplayer services such as global stat tracking, access to online news, multiplayer leaderboards, and more from Activision. This is a new service that will require a monthly fee, but the service is optional. This is not going to be a charge for players to enjoy the great multiplayer that we get with each Call of Duty title. Just to air some confusion, players will not be required to pay for online multiplayer with Modern Warfare 3.

The game is set to drop on November 8th, and it’s already built quite the following, as usual. I’m not quite sure why Activision would wait so late to announce the title, but with players still sunk deep into Black Ops, we can begin to speculate that’s the reason. With the new title just months away, what are you looking forward to with Modern Warfare 3?
