IndieCade

Well, E3 was pretty amazing with all of its big new titles and releases that we’ve all been waiting for. The big companies gave us a glimpse of shiny new games that we’ve wanted to see, and released new titles we will be sure to follow. A little piece of gaming gold that seemed almost tucked away was the IndieCade booth. I honestly would’ve missed it had I not seem them playing a sporting round of Ninjas.

IndieCade is a festival that is the “video game industry’s Sundance.” It is a place to cultivate new ideas and make innovative games. They have an annual festival and if you have any interest, you can go to their site and submit. For this year though, you are out of luck for submitting a game as submissions closed last night.

Now that you have a semblance of an idea of what these people do, you should go check out their games. The titles they brought with them to E3 ranged from computer games to installations. Perhaps my favorite game they had at their booth was one named Deep Sea. For all those out there who enjoy FPS games, this would be a perfect way to hone your skill as it makes you rely on your hearing. You wear a scuba mask that has no light, and have to fire into the darkness based on sounds you hear around you. Other games they brought with them included Desktop Dungeon, Fusion, Hohokum, and Ibb & Obb. They seem to have a pretty amazing lineup for independent creators; I can only imagine what would be found at one of their festivals. If you’re interested in learning more about IndieCade and the games that are listed above, you can check out their site here.
