It’s no surprise that the Wii U’s games won’t be coming on DVD or Blu-ray format, but what we are a bit set back by the announcement that the console will not play either format for video playback. Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata stated during an interview that, “Wii U does not have DVD or Blu-ray playback capabilities.” His reason for this was simply, “enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray.”
In light of this missing feature, Nintendo will be including one in its place. The Wii U will incorporate social media functionality, though no direct details have been given on this new feature. The only thing Iwata would say on the matter is, “we are no longer in a period where we cannot have any connection at all with social networking sites.” We still don’t know exactly how this idea will be applied, but at this point it looks like we’ll have to wait.
As time passes, more details are slowly revealed about the new Wii U. The issue with this, however, seems to be that fans aren’t exactly happy with what they hear. What about you? Are you happy with what you’re hearing about the new console, or is it making you frustrated?
